Response to the Five Obstructions

The film The Five Obstructions was interesting. It was a remake of The Perfect Human and used the reworked premise of the original film (from 1967) to conform to the contemporary world. Each of the five obstructions was a different scenario set up by the commissioner of the film for the filmmaker to address. The filmmaker is the same for both films. I enjoyed how the different tasks were tackled, but found the last iteration to be tacky. The second tasks was the best for depicting the modern world, because of Leth’s choice to use the semi-transparent screen as a barrier. The ramifications of this simple set element echo across cultures in terms of social stratification. His dress, food choice, mannerisms at the table, solitude and tone were brilliantly contrasted against chaos of everything on the other side of the screen. The title The Perfect Human is forced into the viewers mind as this is shown on the screen, an makes us question exactly what perfection is.

A collaborative piece I worked on with a friend named Charlie Zimmerman for the Beaumont project.
A turtle done for the new wing at Beaumont Hospital for children. The theme for several of the exam rooms was 'animals'. Behind the turtle, you can see a dragonfly. I made the turtle out of copper and brass, and the dragonfly of brass.
A clock I made this year. I went with a similar concept as the other clock, but simplified the form.
A clock made from copper, brass and nickel.

My first piece in metals. I did this freshman year at Cranbrook Kingswood. The concept was to have a box within a box.

For then new CFC 1 project, I am morphing my face from 3D to 2D. The progression of faces should seem to melt, and as my face melts, it will turn into an A&D faculty members picture. This is my first sketch.
This is an adobe illustrator image created from a paragraph-long description of another work. Below that is the same form created entirely using text.

Body extention

This is a device that sweeps behind you as you walk. It should allow the user to walk unhindered, but call to mind the effects of our actions. We leave impressions and influence wherever we go, and this forces you to think about what you leave behind.
